Internal Metric Constant Section Rings

Constant section rings are elliptical and make three-point contact when installed in a groove. They can be axially installed into machined grooves in housings or bores (internal), or on shafts (external—often called shaft rings in this application). Constant section rings offer more clearance, but also accommodate less force than, tapered section rings. Material width is uniform throughout. Constant section rings are more difficult to install and remove, but are an economical alternative to tapered section rings in many applications.

Constant section rings are available in carbon steel, stainless steel, phosphor bronze, and beryllium copper construction. Available corrosion-resistant finishes include phosphate, hexavalent chrome, and trivalent chrome. Zinc and copper flash can also be added for color coding.
