Our capabilities for custom pins include both lower tolerance dowel pins (often for construction use) and also high precision dowel pins, high precision partially threaded and knurled pins. Just about any material and finish is possible, even for very small quantities. A variety of test reports and certificates are available as long as they are requested at the time of quotation or at least prior to production start so the production plan can be amended accordingly.

Custom springs we have supplied include mostly compression and extension springs. As long as you have a drawing or samples available we can figure out a way to get the part made 99% of the time - lower volume for custom springs however can be tricky, particularly when tooling is required.


  • Custom .250 Wire Compression Springs - 17-7 Stainless Steel Material

    We supplied 100 pieces of these 2.87" free length custom .250 wire compression springs to our aerospace customer with a first article inspection report (FAIR), MIL-STD-6866 dye penetrant inspection report (Type 1, Method A, Sensitivity Level 3), heat treat certs, and a certificate of conformance.  The outside diameter is 1.218 +/- .010" and the inside diameter is .718".  Heat treat was done to condition CH900 per MIL-H-6875.  Production was done domestically with a rush option to help our customer get out of a timing jam.

  • Custom 1/4 X .34 Alloy Dowel Pins to Print

    This custom dowel pin is made to print using common alloy steel material with both sides chamfered and has a diameter of .25".  Overall length is set at .340 inches +/- .001 and production was done domestically in the USA at approximately 30,000 pcs.

  • Custom 17-4PH Dowel Pins - 5MM X 22.8MM In DFARS 17-4PH Material

    These custom 17-4PH dowel pins were manufactured domestically at 6,000 pieces.  DFARS 17-4PH stainless steel material was used, per AMS5622 with H900 heat treatment required.  Overall length was 22.8MM +0/-.4 and the critical diameter of the pins measured 5MM +0/-.013.  Our internal part number for this custom dowel pin is 12901978 and typical lead time is 12-14 weeks from order confirmation.

  • Custom 17-7PH Compression Springs - 0.125 X 1.016 Compression Springs For Aerospace Applications

    Custom compression springs manufactured domestically and intended for aerospace manufacturing applications. 17-7 PH Stainless steel material per AMS 5678 was used and the parts were passivated per MIL-S-5002. Heat treat was specificed per MIL-H-6875 and we also had to run the springs 100% through penetrant inspection in accordinace with MIL-STD-6866 Type I, Method A, Sensitivity Level 2. Outside diameter measured .800 inches, inside diameter at .53 inches, and 3-1/2 total coils. First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) was provided with the first batch of these compression springs per customer requirements.

  • Custom 17-7PH Springs - C Shaped Aerospace Spring Clips

    We supply these tricky custom 17-7PH springs to our aerospace customer - unlike the other compression and extension 17-7PH springs we supply the same customer, these are C shaped with two .165" length oval openings. The material thickness was set to .020" and the outside diameter at .550-.555". The angle between the ends was the more challenging part, set at 130 +/-5 degrees. The oval openings incorporated a full radius on both sides and the width was limited to .062" max. A FAIR and material certs were provided with the parts.

  • Custom 302 Stainless Compression Springs - .030 wire size

    We had a small quantity of 250 pieces of these custom 302 stainless compression springs produced domestically, with a lead time of approximately 8 weeks. .030 wire size was used and the free length was set at 1.5". Out of the 18 total coils 16 were active and the outside diameter tapered down to .22" from the max outside diameter of .34".

  • Custom 52100 Dowel Pins - 7MM X 32MM

    These custom 52100 dowel pins were fairly ordinary in dimensional requirements but the material was quite tricky and time intensive to procure.  C-52100 DFARS material per S5452100-22810A specification was used with 91.5 ksi tensile strength.  Heat treatment was performed to achieve hardness of 81-83.5 HRA per customer requirements.  Material certs and a certificate of conformance was provided with the parts and all production processes were done domestically in the USA.

  • Custom Aerospace Compression Springs - 17-7PH Stainless Steel Material

    .042" diameter wire was used to make this custom spring, with OD at .200" and ID at .116". The free length is 1.391". The ends were closed and ground square to spring axis within 1.5 degrees. 17-7PH stainless steel material is used for the domestic production of these parts, per AMS 5673-F. Our production runs are typically in the smaller 500 piece quantity range for this specific spring, with lead time at 8-10 weeks.

  • Custom Coil Compression Springs - Music Wire At .471" Outside Diameter

    These are one of the many custom coil compression springs we supply our customer base, made in the USA using music wire with revolving 12 month blanket purchase orders.  The outside diameter measures 0.471 inches, the free length is at 1.391 inches, and the custom springs maintain 9.4 coils.

  • Custom Diamond Knurled Stainless Steel Pins

    These are stainless steel knurled pins made to a customer's print at a quantity of just over 500 pieces. They measure approximately .800" in length at a diameter of .118". Ofcourse the most interesting requirement is the diamond knurling of .150" at each side that is intended to bite into the plastic setting. In order to increase the diameter at the knurled ends and allow for better locking into the plastic the factory adjusted their method to allow for very aggressive knurling, thereby pushing the material further and increasing the overall diameter at both sides. No machining or deburring was done on either side after this process to preserve this increased diameter.

  • Custom Eccentric Shafts In 431 Stainless Steel Material

    We supply our customer these custom eccentric shafts on a revolving blanket purchase order basis, typically at 350 pieces required annually.  431 material per AMS 5628 material was used to manufacture these tricky parts, with heat treat, dicronite finish per AMS 2530 not to exceed .0002" in thickness.  Dimensional tolerances were very stringent on these parts, at +/- .0002" on many of the cross section diameters along the shaft.  The hex socket drive was broached with engagement to be at .175" minimum and overall drill depth not to exceed .200".  

  • Custom Electropolished Springs - 17-7PH Stainless Material

    These custom electropolished springs are manufactured domestically for our aerospace customer using 17-7PH material per AMS 5678.  .100" +/- .001" wire diameter is used with an overall free length of 1.355".  Outside diameter is 1.069 +/- .010 and the inside diameter is set at .0869".  Parts had to be heat treated to CH900 per AMS 2759, passivated per AMS 2700 method 1 or method 2, electropolished per PPS 300 Type III, and go through magnetic particle inspection per ASTM E1444.

  • Custom Hardened Dowel Pins - SAE 52100 Steel Material

    We supplied our automotive manufacturing custom with these custom hardened dowel pins in SAE 52100 steel material, heat treated to reach 81.0 - 83.5 HRA.  The diameter was ground to 7.000MM +/- .005MM and the length was set to 32.0MM +/- 0.2MM.  

  • Custom Long Compression Springs In 17-7PH Material - 30.331 Overall Length

    The production of these custom long compression springs in 17-7PH material was run at a relatively small batch of only 25 pieces.  17-7PH material was used per AMS 5678 and all production work was done domestically with all secondary processes done with NADCAP certified facilities.  A first article inspection report (FAIR) was provided as well with the parts together with all other certs.  .060 +/-.0015" diameter wire was used to make this part and the ID/OD was set to .78"/.90".  Parts were passivated per AMS 2700, method 1, type 2 or 8 with full certs to complete the production process spanning approximately 7-8 weeks from start.

  • Custom Long Stainless Steel Dowel Pins - 303 Stainless Steel

    These custom long stainless steel dowel pins were manufacture domestically using 303 stainless steel material.  The diameter was set to 2.002mm to 2.008mm and the length was set to 100mm +/-.01mm.  Full certs were provided with the parts and thorough QC testing was done on the straightness.

  • Custom Metric Dowel Pins - M8 X 35MM In Alloy Steel With One Side Tapped With M4 X 0.7M Thread

    These are custom metric dowel pins we supply to our long time electronics OEM customer.  They are made using alloy steel at M8 X 35MM and are tapped on one side each for M4 X 0.7M thread.  The thread depth is set at 3MM and the other side is left untouched.  These custom dowel pins are manufactured domestically with a lead time of 6-8 weeks.

  • Custom Partially Knurled Pins In Plain Steel Material - 6-32 Thread On One Side

    These are custom partially knurled pins made using plain low carbon steel material.  One side is threaded at 6-32 with approximately .375 inches of thread while the other is diamond knurled at .20 inches max.  Overall length is set at .855 inches.  Production was done domestically at approximately 1,000 pieces.

  • Custom Precision Dowel Pins In 18-8 Stainless Steel Material

    Overall length was set to .240" +/- .005" and the diameter was set to .092" +/-.005".  These were relatively simple parts and the lead time was much faster than the more involved parts that require a special finish.  Full certs were provided with the parts.

  • Custom Precision Ground Pins In 304 Stainless Steel Material

    These custom precision ground pins were manufactured in 304 stainless steel material for a medical product manufacturer.  The OD of the shaft measured 6.35MM +/-.01MM and the overall length measured 152.4MM +/- .1MM.  Pre-production samples were provided to our customer for approval prior to full production start.

  • Custom Precision Steel Pins - 1018 CRS Material

    These custom precision steel pins were manufactured domestically for our customer involved in water treatment product manufacturing.  1018 CRS material was used with plain finish.  The drive-less head measures .060" in height and .290" for the diameter, +/-.005".  The shoulder portion was the most critical with a diameter of .195" +/- .001" and a slight 45 deg by .02" chamfer.  Overall length of the shoulder shaft was set to .460".  Production is typically done at 5,000 pieces at a time.

  • Custom Shoulder Pins In Grade 2 Steel With Zinc Finish - 5/16 X 13/16 Shoulder

    These are custom shoulder pins made using grade 2 steel material with zinc finish, manufactured overseas in Taiwan at approximately 100,000 pieces.  We supply them to our long time OEM customer on revolving 12 month blanket purchase orders, delivering parts as they need them.  The shoulder was maintained at 5/16 X 13/16".  Lead time for the initial lead time was 120-150 days, which is fairly typical for overseas parts with ocean freight.

  • Custom Slotted Pins With Partial 6-32 Thread - 304 Stainless Steel Material

    We supplied our customer a short run supply of these custom slotted pins with partial 6-32 thread.  Just over 200 pieces were produced domestically using 304 stainless steel material.  The 6-32 thread length was set at 0.18" and all other dimensions were derived from the samples our customer provided us.  These parts were relatively simple without any special services or paperwork requirements.

  • Custom Stainless Slotted Pins in 416 Stainless Steel Material - RC 26 to 32

    We supplied our long time medical device customer 2,500 pieces of these tricky custom stainless slotted pins.  Production was done domestically using 416 stainless steel material - the original design called out for 17-4PH stainless steel material but that was found to be unnecessary for the relatively simple application.  416 SS provided a much more cost effective and faster alternative while still providing the "spring" action required when the four petals were contracted.  10 pieces were provided out of the production batch for testing and approval before the balance was completed with the slotting process.

  • Custom Stainless Steel Compression Springs - .240 X .032 X 1

    These are custom stainless steel compression springs we supply to our customer on an as-needed basis at approximately 20,000 pieces per order.  The lead time is typically 4-6 weeks for full production.  The stainless steel wire used is .032 in thickness and the total static length of the springs is 1 inch.

  • Custom Stainless Steel Compression Springs - 302 Stainless Steel Material Per AMS 5640

    These are custom stainless steel compression springs we supply our aerospace customer, in 302 stainless steel material to AMS 5640.  The initial production run was relatively small at just 500 pieces, completed domestically with First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) and all applicable certifications.  The freestanding length of the custom spring was set at 2.472 inches +/- .010 and the outside diameter of the coil is set at .261 +/- .005 inches.

  • Custom Stainless Steel Precision Pins - 303 Stainless Per AMS 5640 V Type 1

    220 pieces of these custom stainless steel precision pins were produced domestically for our aerospace customer using 303 stainless steel material. Original specifications on the drawing called out for 303 stainless steel per AMS 5638 but we obtained a deviation approval to provide the part using a similar AMS 5640 V Type 1A spec material instead. Passivation per AMS 2700, method 1, type 4, class 2 was done to complete the parts prior to QC inspection. Overall length measures at 1.131" +/-.005 and the shaft diameter is set to .074-.075". The width of the flattened section on one end reaches a diameter of .084" +/- .005. The other end is rounded at R .078.

  • Custom Threaded Stainless Pins - M3 & 10-32 Thread

    These are tiered custom threaded stainless pins created for an audio equipment manufacturer in 18-8 stainless steel material.  Production was done domestically with a lead time of 5-6 weeks from order.  The overall length of the part is at 1.4" inclusive of .90" of M3 coarse thread and .37" of 10-32 thread.  Multiple shoulder steps were incorporated per our customer's specifications and the drive-less head measures .50" for the OD and .066" for the height.  The next iteration of this part will likely incorporate a thicker head and a slotted drive.

  • Custom Titanium Dowel Pins - 1/16 X 1/4 OAL

    These custom titanium dowel pins were manufactured domestically using ASTM B348 Grade 5 material.  Our customer was a US University based physics research facility and per their request a material certificate with a certificate of conformance was provided with the parts.  The 1/16 diameter had a tolerance of +/- .005.

  • Special 1/16 X 1/4 Dowel Pin in 420 Stainless Steel

    This is a special dowel pin made for our aerospace customer using 420 stainless steel material at just 100 pieces.  After production the pins were separately passivated using a NADCAP certified facility using a process of passivation with descaling and a 24 hour water immersion test that is typically recommended for 400 series stainless steel materials.

  • Special 1/6 X .850 Hastalloy Sensor Pin

    Custom pins of virtually all types, materials, and specific requirements are Engineered Source's specialty.  We work closely with our international and domestic factories to supply special pins like this 1/16 X .850 Hastalloy Sensor Probe Pin, chamfered only on one side.  This specific part is distributed to our customer on an "As Released" blanket order basis, allowing for greater flexibility based on manufacturing and financial metrics.

  • Special Dowel Pin to Print In 303 Stainless Steel

    We supply a wide range of special pins in materials varying from PVDF to 303 stainless steel like these special to print 3/16 X 7/16 dowel pins.  This pin has been provided to our customer using the same trusted factory for over five years.

  • Special Music Wire Extension Spring

    We supply our customer base a number of different custom made compression and extension springs, typically on a blanket as-released purchase order basis.  This special spring part is an extension spring made using pre plated .022 galvanized music wire material.  It is usually supplied to our customer at 5,000 piece increments.

  • Special PVDF 1/16 X .415 Micro Pin

    We supply a number of PVDF pin parts like this 1/16 X .415 version to a customer that deals largely with water treatment applications. Together with a variety of other special hardware parts we supply this special pin on an annual blanket as-released purchase order basis. We try to maintain a minimum 6 month supply to provide our customer optimal flexibility.

  • Specialty 1/2" & 3/4" Compression Springs

    Engineered Source supplies special springs made to customer prints of all varieties, materials, and sizes. This particular custom compression spring is US made to 1/2" and 3/4" overall length to meet the customers specific product needs. Typical lead time on special springs manufactured domestically is 8-10 weeks.

  • Specialty 1/4 X 1/4 Alloy Dowel Pins to Print

    Dowel pin specials are a common component of our special fastener offering to manufacturers and this particular part is a 1/4 X 1/4 dowel pin made using alloy steel to print. Most of the custom dowel pins we supply our diverse customer base are manufactured domestically in the USA, particularly the high precision low tolerance variations.

  • Specialty Stainless Pin With One Side Diamond Knurled

    Similar to the other knurled pin we supply, this is a stainless steel pin manufactured in the USA with a single diamond knurled side.  Made the same way, the knurling is done aggressively to push the material and expand the outside diameter beyond that of the smooth shoulder portion.  The pin measures approximately .980 in length +.005/-.000 and the outside diameter of the smooth shoulder is .118 +/-.0005.  The outside diameter of the knurled side however is .150 +/-.005.  32-35 pitch is used on the knurling.
