When is VMI an Ideal Arrangement

Vendor Managed Inventory is not the ideal arrangement for everyone and a careful analysis of the company's hardware needs and use cycle is critical in ensuring that it is a cost beneficial approach. Typically, VMI provides the greatest benefits when the manufacturing process uses the same parts consistently. If significant changes are common for the hardware needs at a specific plant, VMI may only create additional complexity and limit the cost saving opportunity.
